Steampunk Owl Jewelry

Ancient wisdom from deep within the forest - presenting my newest Steampunk owl jewelry creations!
I love making owl faces out of clock parts.

This Steampunk Owl Necklace has been named Evergreen Sparks by the members of my Bionic Unicorn page on Facebook. Steampunk gears are set within antiqued aqua flowers to create the owl's eyes. The Steampunk owl's face is made from vintage watch movements. Small enamel leaves spray out from behind the owl's face. I hand enameled the leaves in dark forest shades of brass, black, and silver.

These Steampunk Owl Earrings are named Absinthe Nocturna. The name is a play on words, stemming from Athene Noctua, which is a species also known as "Little Owl". I enameled neo Victorian scallops and flowers to match the verdigris shades of the owls. The green enamel flowers bloom upon brass watch gears and sparkle with emerald Swarovski crystals. The owls eyes glisten with the same shade of green jewels. The Absinthe Noctura Steampunk Owl Earrings are very lightweight and comfortable to wear, as the owls and scallops are stampings with hollow backs. The ear wires are sterling silver.

I hope you like my new Steampunk Owl jewelry designs. I truly think that gold and green is going to be the next hot color combo in the Steampunk world. Luxurious colors of the earth with an antiqued vintage appeal - what's not to love?

Steampunk Jewelry - Pirate Queen Adventure

I've decided to bring back a Bionic Unicorn classic - the Pirate Queen hoop earrings! These are such a fun option that can translate well between your Steampunk attire and your everyday outfits. Not everything Steampunk needs to involve gears and mechanics. Sometimes it's just as fabulous to take designs and and ideas of the Victorian era and translate them into the modern age. This sort of styling can also be referred to as Neo Victorian.

I have developed a new enameling process that is reminiscent of marbled enamel from the Art Nouveau movement. The Steampunk Pirate Queen earrings are currently available in blue and copper, teal and gold, aqua and gold, and plum and copper

These colors are the same shades that I use in many of my Steampunk necklaces, so pairing up earrings with necklaces is as easy as afternoon tea.
If you would like to place an order for a custom color option, please email me at bionicunicorn@gmail.com to make arrangements.

Steampunk Jewelry - Nocturna Forest Jewelry Collection

Introducing jewelry from my newest collection, Nocturna. Steampunk influences are woven with Tribal, Gothic, and Art Nouveau styles on a lantern lit journey through the forest at night.

Nocturna is my most personal collection to date, as it has been entirely influenced by the challenges and obstacles that have occurred over the past year. Let's just say 2013 has been brutal. I was inspired to create jewelry that used darker symbols from the forest in a romantic and powerful light. I wanted to share these ideas with you in an amulet form to invoke strength and perseverance through cultural symbols and animal totems.

My friends at Organic Armor lent their intricate headpieces to help illustrate the journey through the forest at night. Organic Armor designs unicorn horn circlets and pretty much any kind of animal horn you can think of.

The journey starts at sunset. This necklace is called Dragonfly Equinox. Copper flowers mix with golden gears, iridescent jewels, leaves, and a verdigris dragonfly. The dragonfly represents change, good luck, strength, dreams, and purity.

Next we draw our power from the interlocking tails of coiled snakes. The Serpent's Dream statement necklace draws reference from Celtic Tribal and Art Nouveau styles. The Celts saw the snake as a symbol of secret knowledge, change, and cunning. Think of shedding metaphoric skin like a snake to become a shiny new version of yourself!

The Art Nouveau Skull necklace combines feminine energy, darkness, and power - much like a Valkyrie! Somebody got you down? Talking behind your back? Ignore them. Be yourself even harder. Work hard to make your dreams come true. That is the best revenge, as ultimately you will have bettered yourself. Wearing badass jewelry doesn't hurt either.

The Enchanted Bat Steampunk necklace is truly one of my favorites. Much like the concept of Batman, I too like to use the symbol of the bat for personal power, strength, and perseverance. The bats on this Tribal Goth statement necklace are carrying an antiqued watch movement up to the sky. The necklace is accented with black spikes.

This is just a taste of the newest designs I have to offer. Plenty more on the way!

XOXO Kristin

Tribal Divinations

I've been conjuring some new jewelry designs inspired by tribal mysticism. I've been envisioning a celestial desert that is cool at night with the twinkling of stars. My current tribal jewelry designs are hybrids of Art Deco, Egyptian, and Southwestern styles, mixed together with hints of magic and whimsy.

Metropolis Earrings available in Helio or Moon
These earrings vintage vintage glass with iridescent effects.
Helio has rainbow like colors and Moon is opalescent.

This necklace is called Vision Quest. I painted geometric designs
in purple and blue enamel upon a vintage brass Egyptian style crescent. The geometric design is inspired by Aztec art. The jewels are vintage West German, circa 1960.

Since I love hybrids, it's very fitting that this necklace is inspired by the mythical beast Chimera. Chimera was essentially a hybrid of a lot of different animals. A yellow glass eye stares from within a gold blazing sun. The sun sparkles with green jewels and takes flight with brass wings.

Also available to you are new cosmic pocket watch designs such as Mystic Star and Soleil Arcana.

Spring Collection Mood Board & Inspiration

I'm so excited for my Spring 2012 collection. I put together a little mood board so you can see my inspirations. I don't usually make mood boards, so this was very fun and new for me. I credited the images where the sources are known.
My collection will be heavily influenced by Dolly Kei, a fashion movement from Japan inspired by fairytales, folklore, vintage romance, and the forest. You can get a great feel for Dolly Kei by reading this article about Grimoire, a boutique in Tokyo that I completely adore.
My jewelry is already pretty much a marriage between Dolly Kei and Steampunk, so for Spring, I am going to fully indulge in these concepts. The color palette will be muted pastels mixed with soft earth tones. A very romantic, antique, and woodsy vibe. Oh, and there will be magical creatures joining us on our stroll through the forest.

Getting Ready for TeslaCon

In a couple of weeks I will be a guest at a steampunk immersion event called TeslaCon. I will be debuting new collections of jewelry inspired by the Lost City of Atlantis, steampunk royalty, and feathers. Quite an eclectic combo, no? Here are some previews of the jewelry I will be bringing with me to TeslaCon. These creations are all currently available in my Etsy shop and my website. All of my new jewelry will be available in both shops at the end of November.

25% off Sale Through Oct 2nd

Hello darlings! This past weekend I had a surprise mini sale, and it went so well I have decided to keep it going for the rest of the week. You can have 25% off any item in my shop. That includes my large steampunk statement necklaces, my chain maille jewelry, even the Heart Chain Fringe necklace!

This necklace features a three tier steampunk assemblage strung with light green jasper stones and antiqued silver chain. Stone scarabs and shells are nestled within the steampunk flower garden.

This steampunk flower necklace has an interesting twist - a vintage brown watch cog! The cog accents the steampunk pendant asymmetrically.

This flower necklace is inspired by shamans and the rainforest. I love the harmony between the metal spikes and the retro neon flowers.

Orange and aqua create an energetic pop of color. This necklace is inspired by Aztec design and the magic of a sunrise.

These are but a few of the fantastic designs you can get 25% off on right now. Visit my shop to view more jewelry designs.

xoxo

Carmilla: A Gothic Vision

I recently had the absolute delight of working with Lillyxandra, the brilliantly creative pixie responsible for the amazing designs of Firefly Path. I have been a long time fan, so imagine my happiness when she responded to my email saying she'd like to wear my jewelry. Wow! I designed jewelry to complement her newest design, a black and red Rococo inspired ball gown. Here are some of my favorite pics from a recent photo shoot that Lillyxandra (aka JoEllen Elam) did with her sister Mary. You can see more photos here at the official Firefly Path website, and also on Mary's Flickr account.
