Color Guide for Spring Summer 2015: Under the Sea

With the desolation of winter knocking on my door, I am already escaping to the trending color palette for Spring Summer 2015. What Pantone describes as "An eclectic, ethereal mix of understated brights, pale pastels, and nature-like neutrals" can be be illustrated with a scene from "The Little Mermaid".

Think of every color you would need to recreate an image from "Under the Sea" from "The Little Mermaid". Those are the colors to focus on for 2015. Sebastian red, mermaid tail green, and many shades of blue for underwater depth. Don't forget Flounder yellow and seashell bra lavender. You will also need some beige for the sand and a few neon brights because we are dealing with a coral reef, after all. It's no surprise that this color palette is that of a tropical getaway. With the 25th anniversary of the Little Mermaid and current environmental issues, life under the ocean is flipping it's fins in the imaginations of many designers.

And now for my Color of the Year Prediction! Robert Allen thinks it is going to be Calypso Blue. I agree on the blue factor, but I think the chosen shade is going be a bit darker and more saturated. We haven't had a deep blue in a while. The blues of the past have all been on the aqua or pastel side. I don't think it's going to be a shade of green. We just had Emerald in 2013. If it's green again, fine, but that's not very creative.

I think the color of the year will be Dazzling Blue or Snorkel Blue. These are brighter variations of Classic Blue and they represent the mindset of 2015. In 2015, there will be a greater focus on ethics in business and society. Blue is the color of loyalty and trust. You can count on the color blue. In a way, it's also the color of unity. We all have the color blue in common, with the sky and the ocean. Why not choose a color that represents the hue of our planet?
